The SS Jaguar Drop Head Coupe was a convertible that appeared in 1938 with all three engines in the Jaguar series.
The Drop Head Coupe (DHC) came to replace the SS Jaguar Tourer in 1938, but if the Tourer was only made with a 2.5L engine, DHC sales started on all three (1.5, 2.5, 3.5 Litre) engines. Also, the body of the Drop Head Coupe had noticeable differences from the Tourer.
From 1938 to 1940, 1,154 DHC SS Jaguars were built on three types of chassis: Jaguar 1.5 Liter ~643, Jaguar 2.5 Liter ~273, Jaguar 3.5 Liter ~238.
It is difficult to determine the exact number of cars produced with this body due to one remarkable fact - since 1939, DHC cars began to be produced under chassis numbers SS Jaguar Saloon . However, there were much fewer cars in the Drop Head Coupe body, and to the total number of officially known quantities (1,154) one can add 100-200 copies recorded on the Saloon chassis numbers.
In this article presented only information about the 3.5 liter SS Jaguar Drop Head Coupe. Information about the 2.5 liter engine is available in the SS Jaguar Open Tourer article and about the 1.5 liter engine in the SS Jaguar Saloon article.
