The Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe is the second vehicle in the XK120 range with a Coupe body style and a metal hardtop.
The Jaguar XK120 Fixed Head Coupe model appeared in 1951 and differed from the previous ( Jaguar XK120 OTS ) by a fixed metal roof, as well as various minor modifications and design features. Like many of the company's previous models, it is simply the result of an expansion of the XK120 model range to increase demand and meet the needs of closed-body customers. The model was also called simply Coupe (mainly in the USA).
The car, additionally, was presented in an expanded version of the Special Edition (version M for the USA) with increased power, the production of which was also launched in 1951.
Production of the model ended in July 1954. In three years, they managed to make 2,680 cars with FHC bodies, of which: right-hand drive – 195, left-hand drive – 2,485. Most were exported.
Engine: Six-cylinder, two camshafts, 3442 hp, cylinder bore and stroke 83×106 mm, two SU carburetors with electric throttle valve, aluminum pistons, crankshaft with 7 bearings, forced lubrication of the engine with submersible pump and filter, compression ratio 7:1 (8:1), cylinder head made of durable aluminum alloy with spherical combustion chambers, block made of high-quality cast iron, light alloy connecting rods.
Frame: High-strength steel frame with increased rigidity. The car's stability when cornering is ensured by special fasteners.
Gearbox: Four-speed helical gearbox with synchronization. Gear ratios: 1at – 12.29, 2at – 7.22, 3at – 4.98, top – 3.64. Optional gear ratios: 3.27, 4.0, 4.3. Hardy Spicer shaft and 10″ Borg&Beck clutch disc.
Suspension: Front suspension - wishbone and torsion bar, independent. Newton telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers. Rear transverse springs made of silicon-manganese steel with Girling PV.7 hydraulic dampers. The shock absorbers are enclosed in protective covers with holes for lubrication.
Electrical equipment: Lucas de Luxe, two 64 amp 12 volt batteries with voltage control system and voltage support for 10 hours, main light, fender lamps, brake lights, reversing lights, two tail lights, instrument panel lights, interior lights, double horn, two windshield wipers, cigarette lighter, starter, ignition timing with centrifugal regulator, heating system.
Controls: Convenient and comfortable controls from Burman with a screw and a ball nut. 17" Bluemel steering wheel. Right/left hand drive – optional.
Gasoline Equipment: Electric SU pump, 15 gallon gas tank (24 gallon optional) with dash mounted gas gauge. Filler cap with lock.
Body: Double body with fixed roof. Protective glass all around. Four ventilation windows. Adjustable air ventilation. Spacious trunk with lighting and a special compartment for tools. There is also some space behind the seats.
Roof: Mohair roof retractable into a special compartment behind the seats. Side windows included.
Seats: Made from quality Dunlopillo leather. Separated and adjustable.
Instrument panel: Speedometer 140 mph, ammeter, oil gauge, electric clock, fuel gauge with light signal, cooling system temperature gauge, speed gauge.
Interior trim and elements: The dashboard and elements are made of figured walnut wood. Glove compartment, glove box, ashtray.
Dimensions: Overall length – approximately 14′ 5″ (over bumpers), width – 5′ 2″, height – 4′ 5 1/2″, ground clearance – 7 1/8″. Wheelbase – 8′ 6″, front track width – 4′ 3″, rear track width – 4′ 2″. Turntable – 31′ 0″. Weight – 25 1/2 cwt.
Wheels and Tires: Stamped steel wheels with Dunlop “Road Speed” 6.00×16 tires. The spare wheel is in a special compartment at the rear of the car. Second spare wheel as an additional option.
Jacking: A central jack on each side of the vehicle lifts both wheels simultaneously with minimal effort.
Brakes: Fully hydraulic brake system, dual shoe front brakes. 12 inch brake drums. Friction area 207 square inches. Front drums with air channels for cooling. Handbrake on the rear wheels.
