The car was designed by the Jaguar design studio led by Ian Callum. Testing of the future crossover began in 2013. Even then it was known that the crossover would be built on an aluminum platform and would have a three-liter V6 engine. On July 4, 2015, a pre-production Jaguar F-Pace made its public debut during the Le Grand Départ cycling race in Utrecht, the Netherlands and later in the Tour de France as a support car.
With the debut of Panasonic Jaguar Racing, the legendary brand is back on the track to win the third season of the FIA Formula E racing series. The team has the first all-electric racing car JaguarI-TYPE1, which debuted in September 2016 at the JaguarCollections center. The honor of being the first to demonstrate the new car to the public fell to the team's official reserve pilot, Ho-Pin Tung. The I-TYPE 1 embodies the brand's 'Race To Innovate' mission, which embraces the desire to change the perception of electric vehicles, develop new electric technologies and inspire future generations. The presentation also saw the introduction of the core team, with Adam Carroll and Mitch Evans spearheading Jaguar's return to motorsport. Panasonic Jaguar Racing's I-TYPE is equipped with a 200kW electric motor that can reach speeds of up to 140mph (225.3km/h). Traction is transmitted to the drive wheels through a sequential gearbox with paddle shifters.
The Jaguar I‑Pace Concept, the prototype of Jaguar's first electric SUV, a concept vehicle described as a five-seat sports car, was unveiled by JLR at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 16, 2016 and shown on the road in London in March 2017. And the world premiere of the production model took place on March 06, 2018 at the Geneva Motor Show. The production version of the I-PACE was released at the end of 2017, and series production will take place at the Magna Steyr plant in Austria. Some of the electric drive technology used in the Jaguar I-pace comes from the Jaguar I-Type Formula E program, while the concentric motors were developed by JLR engineer Dr. Alex Michaelides.
